Pre-Operative Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation Instructions

Please follow these instructions to ensure that your surgery runs as smoothly as possible.

  • • Nothing to eat or drink (water included) 8 hours prior to your appointment except your daily medications (including allergy medications) with a small sip of water.

    • Mandatory to have a responsible, ENGLISH speaking driver who MUST stay in the office during the entirety of your surgery. All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Due to new Covid-19 Visitor Policies, no additional visitors are permitted unless additional assistance is need due to a disability.

    • On the day of your surgery, we recommend that someone stay with you the entire the day that can assist with your care.

    • If prescribed, bring your inhaler with you to your surgical appointment.

    • No driving for 24 hours after your surgery.

    • Wear loose, comfortable clothes, a short sleeve shirt, and flat shoes.

    • Remove nail polish on the fingernails.

    • Fill your prescriptions BEFORE your scheduled surgery date unless directed otherwise by your surgeon.

    • Have a supply of soft foods at home (ex: oatmeal, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, soups, pudding, jello, ice-cream, etc.) and a few tea bags (ex: lipton black tea).

    • The use of cell phones/smart phones within the office is strictly prohibited. Taking video, audio, or pictures of yourself or others prior, during, or after surgery while in the office is prohibited. You do not have authorization to film, audiotape, or photograph any staff, provider, other patients, or any part of your clinical care as in accordance with Maryland Law.

    • You must call our office and let us know of any sickness or congestion from allergies 3 days prior to surgery so that we may evaluate and/or treat or potentially reschedule if necessary.

    • Due to the recent increase in medical and recreational marijuana use, be advised that your surgery will be canceled if use within the last 3 days (72 hours) is suspected on the day of surgery.

    • IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at EVERY visit.
