Jean-Luc Niel, DMD    

Dr. Jean-Luc Niel is a board certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon licensed in the state of Maryland. He was born in Geneva, Switzerland and raised in many different countries, to include France, Brazil, and Mexico before reaching the United States at the age of 15.

Dr. Niel completed both his undergraduate and dental school degree at the University of Connecticut in 1994 and 1998. He was then commissioned into the US Air Force as a general dentist and had assignments in Washington D.C and Turkey. He completed his surgical residency at Travis AFB in California in 2008. His Active Duty tour then took him to Germany, and as the Chief of Oral Surgery at Ramstein Air Base and Landstuhl Army Regional Medical Center, he had the privilege of treating wounded warriors returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Dr. Niel continued his path into academics by serving as Program director of the Oral Surgery residency at Travis AFB in 2012 and in 2015 served as program director for Oral Surgery at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

After 20 years of Active Duty service, Dr. Niel retired from the US Air Force in December 2018. Eager to serve the civilian community, he joined Howard County Oral Surgery in January 2019 and is currently a junior partner.

He is a fellow in the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, and member of the Middle Atlantic Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Maryland Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, and American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Niel, his wife Elisa, daughter, and son reside in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He is an avid golfer and enjoys traveling abroad.
